Building detection from disparity of edges

چکیده

The availability of metric or sub-metric satellite images like Ikonos or Quickbird has enabled the fast and automatic detection of man-made structures for applications such as risk or damage assessment and change detection. In particular, the use of stereo pairs reveals the third dimension so distinctive for buildings and responsible for artefacts like shadow and occlusions complicating traditional 2D approaches. Unfortunately, areas to be studied are quite large and algorithms for height estimation are computationally demanding. We propose a simple and fast approach for building detection which computes the disparity at pixels of sufficient gradient and highlights linear segments so representative of building outlines. We have applied it to an Ikonos pair aiming at detecting large buildings in the context of security within the GMOSS Network of Excellence.

Obstacle detection using trinocular stereo cameras without a disparity map

We propose an obstacle detection method based on trinocular stereo vision which consist of vertical and horizontal stereo cameras. Vertical edges and horizontal edges are extracted from horizontal stereo images and vertical stereo images. Then the edges are used to generate U-V-disparity maps. A rectangular obstacle has a characteristic that it is represented as a vertical line in V-disparity m...

Features Stereo Matching Based on Fuzzy Logic

This paper presents an entire scheme for the estimation of a sparse disparity map from stereo pair images. In contrary to a dense disparity map, for which disparity values are calculated for each pixel of image, the sparse disparity map is determined only for some distinguished set of pixels from an image. The pixels belong to this set are called features. Therefore, in the first stage the algo...

Introducing An Efficient Set of High Spatial Resolution Images of Urban Areas to Evaluate Building Detection Algorithms

The present work aims to introduce an efficient set of high spatial resolution (HSR) images in order to more fairly evaluate building detection algorithms. The introduced images are chosen from two recent HSR sensors (QuickBird and GeoEye-1) and based on several challenges of urban areas encountered in building detection such as diversity in building density, building dissociation, building sha...

Noisy images edge detection: Ant colony optimization algorithm

The edges of an image define the image boundary. When the image is noisy, it does not become easy to identify the edges. Therefore, a method requests to be developed that can identify edges clearly in a noisy image. Many methods have been proposed earlier using filters, transforms and wavelets with Ant colony optimization (ACO) that detect edges. We here used ACO for edge detection of noisy ima...
